Rio 2016
The International Olympic Committee has elected Rio de Janeiro as the host of the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in 2016. Rio has long been known for its beautiful beaches and carnival celebrations, and will now become the first South American city to host the Olympic Games. Rio outlasted fellow finalists Chicago, Tokyo and Madrid in the final rounds of IOC voting to determine the 2016 host city.
