If you are training to participate in a triathlon, there is certain swimming equipment you want to invest in to ensure a successful swimming portion of your event. It takes more than training to swim your fastest or to perfect your strokes. The equipment you choose will have a large bearing on the success of your event.
Swimsuit
The swimsuit you choose plays a major role in your swimming times. You need to purchase competitive swimwear because it fits differently than your standard swimsuit. When you look for the right suit, search for one that offers the least amount of resistance against the water. The suit should fit perfectly, allowing the water to glide off you as it does a shark. Your suit should not weigh you down and should be breathable. It should also offer the perfect amount of compression in the stomach, thighs and chest to allow you to seamlessly glide through the water.
Wetsuit
If your event will take place in open water, such as the ocean or a lake, you want a wetsuit that will protect your body against the cold temperatures of the water. Check with the officials of the event when registering to ensure wetsuits are allowed before purchasing one.
Goggles
The right pair of goggles is essential to your success in the event. Your vision has a bearing on how fast you swim; if you cannot see 100 percent, you will not swim your best because you will not be sure of where you are headed. The chlorine in pool water can also damage your eyes, restricting your vision. Look for goggles that are airtight, not allowing any water in, as well as those that have an adjustable strap for a secure fit.
Swimming Cap
The swim cap can keep your hair from restricting your swimming movements, allowing you to swim faster. Look for a swim cap that is tight fitting but comfortable, allowing you to have fluid movement in the water without having to worry about your hair getting in the way.
Pull Buoy
As you train for the triathlon, a pull buoy is a great piece of swimming equipment to use to give you the strength you need to last throughout the entire event. The pull buoy is used to increase your upper body strength by helping your legs to float and forcing your upper body to do all the work.
